What an amazing spot, a very coveted low digit Massachusetts reserve plate.

Are these technically not vanity plates? Mass had soooo many different combinations I didn't really know what was what.

they have wayyyy too many combinations. i really don't know why they didn't just go to ABC-1234 after they ran out of the 123-ABC format way back in 1998 or so. Most weird combinations of letters and numbers less than 5 digits are considered "reserve plates". If you look through some of my "vanity Mass" spots, you can see some examples. Additionally, here is a bit of info about them. The unclaimed ones or ones that get turned it go up for auction. https://www.mass.gov/2021-low-plate-lottery

Here are some examples of ones that were bought last year, many for thousands and tens of thousands of dollars. Additonally, Mass is one of the few US states that does not reserve low numbers like this "12" or even "1" for politicians. https://www.mass.gov/info-details/2021-low-plate-lottery-winners

Wow very cool, thanks for the info. Reminds me of the crazy plate prices in the Middle East. We don't have anything like that here, any low number plates are more likely than not really old vanity plates that people have kept since whenever vanity plates were introduced.

That makes sense. If you want to read up more on Delaware's crazy plate prices, there's info all over the internet on that as well.

"In 2008, for example, Delaware license plate number 6 sold at auction for $675,000."

WOW, that is truly wild. Worth more than 99.9% of cars on the road.
