Oh, sorry!  :D Very simple. I put the plate down to the floor onto a plain white paper, then stood above and took the photo with my Sony DSC-HX350 camera. Then I edited the file, using Photoscape (improved on brightness/contrast, etc.)
I like the style you upload the plates from your collection, so I tried to create something similar.  :)

I do it in a slightly different way!
1. The room is almost completely dark - to avoid shades on of the letters (relevant on embossed plates only).
2. I use tripod. The camera is set to at least 80-100 and not on the wide side of the lens.
The camera is set to f/8 and exposure of 4-5 seconds (because of the dark room). In addition there is a timer of 2 seconds to avoid shakes.
Also, with the tripod you can take a lot of photos in short period of time (no need to aim it and the hands are free to set the plate).
3. The plate is being set on a board with a white background so it will be easier to remove it on Photoshop.
