Mississippi has unveiled a new license plate design, which will revert to an ABC-123 format and be introduced in January 2024.

I wish all states would go to a 123-ABC or ABC-123 (or 1234-ABC / ABC-1234) format and make things easy :)

I wonder how no state has ever used an AB-123-CD format present for quite a bit of time in Europe in various forms :)

This format does not fit too well on standard US sized 6"x12" plates due to 7 characters and two dashes. Having only one separator allows for a larger font for the characters, although Mexico does something similar to this now

Dashes aren't required at all (as in AB123CD). This would be great for something like California even though it's set to likely switch to an 123ABC4 format after 9ZZZ999 is reached.

This actually could work, without the dashes. My state (MA) is soon getting a new plate design and format, so we will see. As they have exercised most previous formats

Wait, really? Or is it your assumption based on how the formats stand the test of time?

The current 1ABC 23 format is reaching its end, and I have heard from a friend who has DMV connections that the state will soon be moving onto a new base, and most likely a flat plate unfortunately :bad:

Embossed plates have always been the best in my opinion, but if they were to introduce a flat plate they better introduce a decent font, not generic stuff....why don't they digitize their present font and simply make an adaptation of that?
