One of the last combinations in this font! The X series apparently went as high as XMV 999 (according to lookup) before jumping to YAA.

Thank you for this information, I knew the cutoff was somewhere near XMT. I've been trying to figure out exactly where it stopped for a little while now. Also, do you know if there's any proof of Y plates lower than YAE? I've only seen YAE and above.

Lookup does not yet seem trustworthy for the Y series, I saw YAW 918 in April and still has no results. Either way I did not find any through search.

Yeah, most of the Y series doesn't work as with many of the 123 ABC plates. Hopefully, we can get some photos or something of earlier Y series plates.

A vendor change occurred, according to https://www.scplates.com/sc-license-plates-types-and-history/passenger, this why the font and numbering changed. Why they split off mail out series, like MN and NM do, is beyond me. Also, is it just me or is the new font kinda ugly and hard to read on the road?

Note: while there’s no proof, this above cited article also says that the new series began at 101 YAA

XMS and XMT were both local to Beaufort Co. SC, I haven’t seen anything higher than that down there

The mail-out series appears to be progressing about the same rate they already were before the split. It depends how a state issues plates. Additionally, in states where new plates are issued directly at dealerships, dealers can have a different progression from office/mail issues as well. Nevada does this, and Illinois also noticeably did in 2005-06 and 2017.

The Y series is hardly being used, only going from YAA to YCL in 10 months

Interesting, thanks for this information. The only real problem with this new font is that you can't really tell if a certain character on the plate is an O or a D from a distance.

Highest I've spotted here in the upstate is XMR, so I'm assuming that's the highest my area was given.

I'm pretty sure the Y series is done. I saw a note on the SCDMV website saying they were moving away from issuing plates in the DMV and would be focusing solely on mailing out plates. I believe this is the reason that 123 ABC plates have accelerated in being issued.

Thank you for the info, I was wondering why the Y series seemed to have frozen. By the way, do you know if YCL is when they stopped, or did they go higher?

From my observations, it appears to have stopped at YCL. Highest I've seen in person is YCL 108, nothing higher. I could try doing some Carfax searches, but that's probably not a reliable source since a lot of Y plates are glitched. Hoping to see proof of higher YCL plates or maybe even a higher series.

Update, I found a way to check of plates are valid, and YCL 659 is the last one that came back valid, so that is the official high
