That's not unique to Chevrolet :(
Have you tried to tell the difference between any new Mercedes-Benz models recently? I worked for them for 5 years until last summer and I can't tell the difference when they are on the road!!!
Same for premium brands too like Aston Martin...
I understand brand identity but if I just paid 100,000 plus for a top-notch S Class, and it looks like a C class on the road. I wouldn't be too happy :-/
That's why all my cars stand out a bit from the crowd :) Quite difficult to confuse them with other models (although I noticed recently the Levorg seems to have a similar nose to my STI. Not too happy about that!!)

=) True ! Exactly !! And the small letters used to label the model number are difficult to read as well !! Model numbers are also complex enough to be License Plate numbers themselves !!! CLK 350, GLA 200 ... That is true about Aston Martin, I just don't see enough of them, but I see it now ! Good point !! That extreme form of Brand Identity is taking away from the Consumers who want to stand out and deserve to in many cases !! :) Good ! That's a good way to fight the standardization and Industrial Globalization !! Sorry to hear !! Creativity needs to make a comeback !! :thumbs up:

Haha don't get me started on Mercedes names!! They all have a meaning, but only if you know about each model - as in, what is a rule for 1 line of models is different for another! Back in the old days it was easy. Everyone knew an E250 was a mid-range saloon with a 2.5 engine. Simple. Now an E250 is a mid-range size saloon but with better than S-class technology and a 2.2 engine, uprated to perform like a 2.5, so it is a simulated engine size. Then they tried to simplify it by putting all the models in line. SLK became the SLC because it was the "C class" of the SL range. But SL doesn't change because it's "historic". All offroad cars now are GLx, and assigned names according the to the "normal" cars they are based from - GLA, GLC etc etc. But, where does that leave the CLS? It has nothing to do with C class, CL class or the S class!

Sorry about that mini rant :D

Of course many (most?) people don't care about their car looking different or standing out in the "ordinary" car sectors, but when it comes to laying out serious money, I think it devalues the top end models. It's both a shame for the consumer and the manufacturer when people can no longer recognise the flagship model from the entry level car (with the exception of the small community of car mad people!).

And all my cars look factory standard except to the trained eye (The DeLorean sits lower and has much larger exhaust system for the upgraded engine, the Mustang has Cobra lights to conform to UK standards), but they are either low volume manufactured or rare for the market (remember my Mustang was not sold officially in Europe, I had to bring it over from USA myself - so not a "rare" car by any means in terms of production numbers, but over here the attention it gets welcomes it to exotic car shows! Not bad for a 13 year old mass produced car =) ).

I just realised I've written a story :D I better stop now
