I hope the same for you too! At least from some teachers and my parents words, I heard that universities not only accept the graduation exam scores, but they also have many other ways to get accepted, so stay strong!

Hi there, how’s the weather going?

Nothing much as of now. My school decided to let us go home 2 hours earlier than expected, it wasn't raining then. But when I'm half way home (around 4 PM) it started to rain heavily so I got soaked in water (I forgot my rain coat at home so that's pretty much on me). There're a lot of branches and trees fell all over the road, so the traffic is horrible. At around 5:30 PM the rain stopped. It will start raining again in 9 PM and the storm will hit Hanoi by tomorrow at noon so I have to cancel my trip hunting for plates, sorry about that. Things should probably be back to normal on Monday. I will keep you updated, if the internet still work properly. Thank you for your concern!

The winds and the rain kept getting worse every minute. The storm is just around 100-200 Kms away from Hanoi so it would be an unpleasant night for us. Electricity will be cut off in the next 10 minutes at around 7 PM, I will keep you updated with my phone though. Thank you once again, for your concern!

So the storm reached Hanoi... how are things now?

+2

justanormalguy 2024-09-07 18:56:58 | #12

Well the blackout was only an hour, so it was good. But the winds are getting stronger every hour, so is the rain. I could sometimes see things flew past my window like a helmet or a small plant pot. There are no thunders, strangely. The roads are as empty as it was back in the COVID quarantine days, although ambulances, fire trucks and police vehicles sirens could still be heard from a distance.

The aftermath must be dreadful... If it goes to plan, your spots can actually be used over on Wikipedia if they're of good quality (car crushed by tree, rescue service on duty for example), so do your best then.

justanormalguy 2024-09-08 08:10:36 | #14

It's indeed dreadful. Cars, motorbikes were crushed by falled trees. Roofs, signs, garbages are scattered all around the streets. The electrical cables underground are exposed due to the fallen light poles. But I do see the military along with the police and the local militia cooperate with civilians to clean up the road, but it's still danger to going outside. Things should probably be back to normal in 1-3 days.

I see. Can you see any military or governmental vehicles, or it's just the people?

I do, in my area at least. There are 2 Carrys from the ward's police which have already been uploaded here months ago. There is a military base in my ward so they just walked out and clean up the streets. There're some other cars like trucks that help cleaning off the street. The rain is still kinda heavy (although, much less compared to last night) so I couldn't go out.

All right then. Be safe out there.

Hi again. How are things now?

+2

justanormalguy 2024-09-10 12:31:59 | #19

Well although the storm has gone, but the aftermath it left are, like metioned before, dreadful. I just went back to my school after a few days and the police station near it shattered 1/3 of the building glass due to, presumably the fallen branches and heavy wind. My school, luckily doesn't have any damages, but the fallen trees and branches do affect our way in. Approx. 18.000 trees have fallen, including the iconic ones (some of them do appear in my spots), so it's kind of a big hazard for anyone who goes outside. The Red River is rising due to many dams opened their floodgates so any district next to it's shore is in danger too. Rains are forecasted to last for a week so things couldn't went back to normal as fast as expected.

+2

justanormalguy 2024-09-10 13:45:40 | #20

So the National Steering Comittee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control has just issued a warning for any district next to Red River, due to the water level there rising the highest ever recorded since 1996. My district is expected to be affected, along with many places I travel across to go to school. The water supply in my area is also cut off as well, from 10 PM to 3 AM tomorrow so the aftermath of the storm is as dreathful as the storm itself.

That’s sad. :( I assume you’re not spotting now, yes?

+2

justanormalguy 2024-09-10 15:10:45 | #22

Well it depends. My main area of spotting (Hoàn Kiếm, Hai Bà Trưng District) are in high chances of getting flooded along with the fallen trees create a big hazard for me from just riding around. I will tried to go on one more trip though, before departing for HCMC this Friday since I'm kind of a risk-taking person when I do something I like, which includes spotting.

+2

turtle-bienhoa 2024-09-10 17:10:24 | #23

So you’re still spotting… Well that would make things unique. You can add “Aftermath of Typhoon Yagi” in the description for archival purposes.

Great idea! Roads aren't fully cleaned out so I think I could still have some photos of the damages done to the surrondings.

Hi there, so the Phong Châu Bridge in Phú Thọ collapsed, and right now there are nearly 80 KrAZ trucks stationed there. The only problem is that it’s 100km from your place though, is there any way you could reach it?

I wish I could. I only have a bicycle, in order to make a trip there I need at least a 50cc motorbike and at least 6-8 hours to do so. But let's say I have reached there, pretty sure the military wouldn't just leave nearly 80 KrAZ trucks there alone with no one watching them so security would be tight. I have saw photos of the local traffic police redirect vehicles onto different ways so approach them would already be hard enough. Another bigger problem we're having is that the weather, it has been raining for an entire day in Hanoi, it only stopped around 15 mins earlier and it's forecasted to keep raining for this entire week. In the end, we have no choice but to lose them.

turtle-bienhoa 2024-09-11 15:13:49 | #27

It’s alright. It’s a bit too much to ask, given the dreadful weather.

On the bright side though, Gumball 3000 is just 3 days left. That should be good enough for both of us, and other spotters from Vietnam in general.
