As the extra information clearly shows, something isn't right here. The plates belong on a VW Transporter, retired in 2010, but...
The plates may not be fake. When the Transporter was retired, the plates weren't handed over. Normally this must be done (the plates will then be scrapped), but if the plates are somehow "inaccessible" it is, of course, not possible. In this case a note will be made in the vehicle registry.
Reasons can include: theft (the car was stolen and hasn't been found - not the case here), plates "lost" (deliberately or not), plates destroyed in vehicle fire (not the case here), plates stolen.
These plates do look original, so they were probably either stolen or the VW owner commited some kind of fraud and either sold them or used them him/herself on this Transit Connect.
I totally agree that the front view should not be removed. This is not a case of "plate without a vehicle" since it is on a vehicle in use.
I would suggest the tag "deliberately changed license plate" instead, maybe "trafic code violation" as well?
I am not sure on what basis this rule is, but is a rule nonetheless and we should follow it.
Those tags aren't correct ones for the case. " Deliberately changed license plate" is a plate that has been manipulated either to read a different combination or just visually (i.e. placing the euroband of a different country or disputed territotory as a political display).
"Traffic code violation" is a visible breakage of the road laws in the photo, like an illegal overtake of the driver using his phone. It doesn't really apply to laws regarding license plates.
BimmerDude " Deliberately changed license plate" is a plate that has been manipulated either to read a different combination...
And that's exactly what we have here: the number/combination has been manipulated to read a different combination.
I suspect that the Ford Transit Connect is stolen and the plates have been switched to avoid getting caught. Although the replacement-plates are also illegal, they are not showing up on searches as suspect, simply because they are believed to no longer exist.
As long as the Ford stays away from Denmark on these plates, there's very little risk of getting caught.
I don't understand... you mean the license plate is not " RN 92744", but something different? This tag is used if for example the "N" was changed to look like an "M" or something like that.
Also it's less likely to be stolen and more likely to be owned by an importer who has some plates left around from vehicles he has imported and puts them on his cars to drive around before sale.
No, the plate itself has not been modified, but it's been swapped with another one for some reason.
The theory of the importer would be plausible, but in this case it can't be correct. Remember, these plates RN92744, belonged to a vehicle that was NOT exported, so an importer couldn't possible have them "left around from a vehicle he has imported"
I checked the danish police list of stolen vehicles and did actually find a possible match (a stolen 2006 Transit Connect)
