A very long career for a bus...

Indeed a long career! This bus was originally built for ATAC but was never delivered; instead was purchased by ASM alongside with other two identical Effeuno from the same batch.
At the time of its withdrawal was one of the very last buses still running with black 1927-style plates in Italy.

There was a Bolognese Monocar built in 1982 which ran until 2009 I think, it was sent to Sicily (but it was re-registered and didn't conserve its original plate). However, this aren't the oldest buses I've heard of.
Two Pegasos which originally started their career at Barcelona in the late sixties, were retired between 1985 and 1989 (at this moment were about 20 years old). But they were sent to Autonomous University in Barcelona (they kept their original plates, from the 1900 Spanish system) and there ran until about 2012, which was at theis time between 44 and 45 years old! And this was because a private company took over the service and replaced the whole fleet with newer buses, but second-hand...
Here I put a photo to show you what I was talking about (this is one bus similar to those I was mentioning):

Never heard about this! Pretty astonishing...
The oldest bus I've caught was a 1981-built Fiat 570.12.20 at the age of 36. It was the last of its batch
still operating in Italy and was retired in early 2018, then scrapped in June 2021 although
many enthusiasts were ready to buy and restore it.

Former ATC-Bologna Menarinis were bought by the city government of Marsala (Sicily) and were kept in operation until 2017. Another bus was bought by a camping and operated until 2018 despite being rotten (here a video of this one: https://youtu.be/EYQiT8mmEpU?si=RQanpTk7z5kmwgxL).
