Is it true that in the Southern region, Ford Ranger is the most common police car in there? I have seen a lot of photos of them wearing license plates from the Southern provinces.

I'm not very sure about that. Police fleets in my area use Mitsubishi Fuso Canter's (1st gen) and Toyota Camry's (7th gen). I once saw a Suzuki Carry (11th gen) being used by Thạnh Phú Communal Police up north. This Ford Ranger is used by the Tân Hoà Ward Police, but it's right next door to Trảng Bom District, though a quite urbanized part of it.

All in all, it MAY come down to funding choice, really. Nearly every police HQ has a police vehicle, so it's up to the powers-that-be to determine which one gets what. Maybe we should add a description which police vehicle belongs to which HQ (ward, commune, district, forensic, traffic, etc).

P/S: I recently found this thing:
http://app.vr.org.vn/ptpublic/quahankd.aspx. A database of vehicles with expired inspection. Interestingly, with owners and ID of last inspection too. This should be helpful.

Well in Hanoi, the most common police cars is the Suzuki Carry, like you can guess. I remember before 2011, police fleets in Hanoi were the same gen like this Ranger you spotted here but after that they were replaced by the 8th gen Carrys although note that they were civilians Carrys converted into police cars. After 12 years in January 2023, they were replaced by newer 8th gen Carrys which were designed only for the police, I have captured a lot of them(The previous civilian Carrys fate is unknown). Ford Rangers are rarer since they are only used by the district's police. We have 5th gen Tritons, 7th gen facelifted Camrys and in some area, 3rd gen Pajero Sports are used by the traffic police. We also have some unmarked police cars used by the VIP Protection Command (a branch of the Ministry of Public Security) for transporting VIPs and escorts like Toyota Land Cruisers, Land Cruiser Prados, Camrys, Corollas, Fortuners, Avalons, Crowns,.., VinFast is also common in the unmarked fleet. And sure, maybe adding a description would help users on the site identifies which vehicles belongs to which department.

Maybe we can use it to spot traffic code violation vehicles.
